No one ever said being in politics was easy, but Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud seems to be taking it in her stride.
The political secretary to Gelang Patah MP and DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has denounced online trolls and unsuspecting scandal hounds for sharing photos of a bikini-clad woman and alleging it was her.
Defenders of the 27-year old card-carrying DAP member clarified that the picture being distributed online is in fact a photo of Filipina actress Pauleen Luna.
The photo started being circulated in connection wit Dyana soon after rumours arose that she would be fielded as a Pakatan Rakyat candidate in the upcoming Teluk Intan by-election, to be held on may 31. The seat was vacated after MP Seah Leong Peng, 48, passed away of bladder cancer on May 1.
“I am disappointed that people will act so low to tarnish my image for political reasons after rumours of me contesting spread. But I accept that good people will always be victimised. I am in politics to serve the people,” Dyana said to The Star Online.
She said she also received abusive phone calls and SMS messages after the picture made its rounds on the Internet.
She took the opportunity to urge those responsible to be more respectful of women.
