Stop in the name of love: JAIS raided a Hindu wedding yesterday

The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) raided a Hindu wedding in Petaling Jaya yesterday morning after allegations were raised that the bride was a registered Muslim.

Harian Metro‘s Mohamad Azim Fitri Abd Aziz reports that a team of four JAIS enforcers and an escort of 10 police and JAIS officers arrived at the wedding in Jalan SS 1/25 at 10.30am following a tip-off.

The families of both the groom and the bride cooperated fully with the JAIS task force.

Sources say the nuptials were scheduled to take place at 10.30am but had to be cancelled after the JAIS task force undertook investigations into the details of the bride’s religion. Under Malaysian law, it is illegal for a Muslim to marry a person of another faith.
