Viral video star Joyce Chu is not Korean – she’s a Malaysia Chabor

Joyce Chu might not be a household name just yet, but two million views on YouTube in under two weeks should help nudge her a little deeper into the limelight.

The 17-year old’s music video for her song ‘Malaysia Chabor’ (which means “Malaysian girl” in Hokkien) has now garnered her 2.4 million views since being uploaded on May 23, and we can see why –  it’s a charmingly catchy pop tune, and Chu’s constant pop culture references are sure to be a hit with the younguns. Who doesn’t prefer cendol over kimchi?

By the way, the song definitely has a viral video pedigree: it’s written by online sensation and songwriter/director/producer/actor Namewee. He’s in the video too – here it is:
