PM Najib wants bodies of MH17 victims home before Hari Raya

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has insisted that the bodies of Malaysians killed in the tragic downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine last Thursday night be gflown out of Ukraine and back to KL as soon as possible, preferably before the Hari Raya celebrations next week. 

The PM said this was to allow for  proper burials to be accorded to the victims on Malaysian soil. 

“We would prefer everything to be done before Hari Raya (which falls on July 28). The remains that have been identified will be brought back and laid to rest here,” Najib said, as quoted by The Malaysian Insider

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it crashed late last night over Ukraine, with debris landing near the town of Grabovo. The Boeing 777 jetliner was carrying 283 passengers and 15 crew members. 

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak stated at a press conference in KLIA this morning that the Ukrainian government believes Flight MH17 was shot down. 

Folliwng the crash, Malaysia Airlines has announced it would reroute all its flights to and from Europe to avoid Ukrainian airspace, with immediate effect.
