Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is not planning on resigning from his post any time soon, despite announcement of Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) announcement that it was officially endorsing Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the job.
While being waylaid by the party you belong to and having the president of said party (who is also the wife of de facto opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) gunning for your job must be an awkward proposition, Khalid said he will hold to the Selangor state constitution, which has defined special conducts and processes to replace the Menteri Besar.
“Until all the processes are complete, I will continue to do my job as the menteri besar with responsibility as requested by the Selangor people,” The Malaysian Insider‘s Jamilah Kamarudin quotes Khalid as saying.
“I hope the people of Selangor will not be easily influenced into believing hearsay.
“Which are provocative and controversial in nature because as enshrined in the Selangor Constitution, there are procedures that we need to adhered to before changing a menteri besar.
“Everything has to be done in a polite and orderly manner.” he said.
There is speculation that Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor is expected to make an announcement on the issue of the MB post after a buka puasa event in Rawang tonight.
Last night, the PKR supreme council came to a decision to officially endorse its president, Dr Wan Azizah for the post of Selangor Menteri Besar.
Wan Azizah is also the Kajang state assemblyman, a seat she won at the controversial by-election earlier this year dubbed “the Kajang Move”. Her husband Anwar was originally slated to contest the seat, but had to step down after his sodomy aquittal was reversed in court.
Khalid said he respected the decision pf the party, but would hold fast to the state enactment and constitution on appointing a menteri besar.
“I believe those involved in this endeavour will have to go through the right channel and processes before they can achieve what they had set out for.”
Khalid also assured the people and investors that the current debacle would not affect the administration system of the state.
