Black boxes indicate rocket explosion downed MH17

Black boxes recovered from the site of the MH17 plane crash indicate it was caused by a rocket explosion, a Ukrainian security official said yesterday.

Data from the boxes was decrypted in Britain after they were surrendered to Malaysian officials by pro-Russian rebels who are controlling the crash site, The Star Online reported.

“Data from flight recorders show that the reason for the destruction and crash of the plane was massive explosive decompression arising from multiple shrapnel perforations from a rocket explosion,” said Andriy Lysenko, spokesman for Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council.

Meanwhile, those in the Netherlands leading the investigation into the incident refuse to confirm the information provided by Lysenko, saying they are still “waiting to get a more complete idea of what happened.”
