Fake cop busted while mugging a woman in Bandar Sunway

A man posing as a police officer was arrested in Bandar Sunway yesterday as he was trying to swindle a woman out of her money.

Subang Jaya Deputy OCPD Supt Tan Ah Chua said the police were first made aware of the suspect’s activities after a 40-year old salesman reported the fake cop’s tactics at 6.50am yesterday morning.

“The salesman was riding his motorcycle along Jalan Subang Utama when another motorcycle started hitting the rear of his vehicle.

“The motorcyclist pulled alongside the salesman’s vehicle and introduced himself as a policeman after whom he instructed the latter to stop his motorcycle,” he added.

The “policeman” then seized the salesman’s keys and placed them in the compartment box of  his motorcycle. He then demanded to see the salesman’s identification card and driver’s license.

“He also took RM100 from the salesman, who was taken aback when he saw an 11-inch knife in the compartment box as he reached out for his keys.

“The bogus cop removed the knife from the box and brandished it at the salesman before speeding off with the latter’s money, keys and Lenovo phone,” he explained.

The salesman then lodged a report at the Bandar Sunway police station.

Police officers – real ones, this time – encountered the 24-year old suspect the same afternoon as he was in the process of extorting money from a woman along Jalan Kewajipan in SS13.

The fake cop was arrested after police officers noted he matched the description of him given by the salesman. He confessed to employing the same tactics on other victims.

The case has been classified as armed robbery under Section 392/397 of  the Penal Code and Section 107 of the same Code for abetment.
