Average household income passes RM5,900 a month – do you feel richer?

The preliminary report of the the 2014 Household Income Survey undertaken by the government seems to show that Malaysians are enjoying a higher standard of living compared to just two years ago, with the average household income surpassing RM5,900 a month.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar said this was a significant improvement over the survey’s findings in 2012, which recorded the average household income as being RM5,000 a month.

Abdul Wahid said Malaysia had been very successful in stimulating the economy as proven by the gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 6.3% in the first half of 2014.

“However, growing the economy alone is not enough because we must also ensure that it is being felt by the people, in terms of higher wages. But it must be parallel with productivity,” he said yesterday, as reported by Bernama
