World-renowned restaurant Nobu opening in KL

Critically-acclaimed fine dining restaurant Nobu, which first made a splash in New York City 20 years ago, will soon be opening its doors in Kuala Lumpur, with its first Southeast Asian branch.

The brainchild of sushi chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, Nobu serves a high-brow menu of fusion Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, with signatures such as the Black Cod Miso, Nobu Tacos, and the Yellowtail Jalapeno.

The restaurant, now a chain spanning the globe from NYC to Moscow, has garnered accolades from the New York Times, the Michelin Guide, and the Zagat Surveys. Pop music icon Madonna once famously said, “You can tell how much fun a city is going to be if Nobu has a restaurant in it.”

Nobu was brought to Malaysian shores by Tan Sri Syed Yusuf, who was also responsible for importing the Hard Rock Cafe and Hard Rock Hotel brands to the country.

Nobu KL is situated on level 56 of Petronas Tower 3 in the KLCC, and will be headed by general manager Stephane Heard and Malaysian-born head chef Philip Leong.

“Malaysians do know food and can appreciate great products. And they don’t mind paying a higher price for a memorable dining experience. These same people often mention that KL is lacking fine dining restaurants and world-class chefs,” Heard told The Star Online.
