Kuala Lumpur tapped to host 2018 Worldchefs Congress

The Worldchefs Congress, a biennial convention for the world’s most prominent practitioners of the culinary arts, will be making Kuala Lumpur its home in 2018.

Malaysia was the only Asian country in the final round of contention, having previously beaten Hong Kong in an earlier round of qualifiers.

The Worldchefs Congress, which was held in Norway this past July, aims to discuss global discussions in the culinary sector. The congress also includes a trade show showcasing the latest products in the global food and beverage industry.

Delegates to the congress also compete in the Worldchefs Global Chefs Challenge.

The congress is organised by the World Association of Chef’s Societies, representing over 10 million chefs worldwide. The KL congress will mark only the second time the event has been held in a Southeast Asian city in its 86-year history, and is expected to draw around 1,000 delegates and generate more than RM10.8 million for the Malaysian economy.

The 2016 Worldchefs Congress is due to be held in Athens, Greece.
