Local researchers create anti-mosquito soap and body lotion

A group of local doctors and scientists have created a soap and body lotion that can prevent mosquito bites using a humble ingredient: serai wangi (Citronella)

That’s another layer of protection from the ever-menacing Aedes mosquito right there.

The products – which also include a combination of other herbs that could potentially prevent mosquito bites – were created by 13 doctors and scientists, all of whom were former university mates at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)

Head of product research Dr Mohamad Shukor Yusof, 58, told Bernama the idea was conceived when they met up in February. All of them wanted to contribute something useful to society.

“Coincidentally, when we met last February, Malaysia was experiencing a serious dengue outbreak, so we discussed how we could help the people of this country prevent themselves from mosquito bites,” he said in a report published by Bernama.

But hang in there. You can’t find these products in stores just yet, but according to Dr Shukor, his team hopes to market them soon to help prevent dengue.
