Malaysians waste 8 million kilos of food daily, says report

The next time you decide to throw food away, think about this fact: Malaysians waste an average of 8,000 tonnes – or eight million kilos – of food daily.

According to a report from Kosmo, picked up and translated by The Star, that amount increases by an average of 15 to 20 per cent during festive seasons.

That amount of food can feed up to six million people. Waste from 18 days could also stack up as high as the Petronas Twin Tower.

And if the math is right, that could also mean that a year’s waste would total 2.92 billion kg, enough to feed 2.2 billion people.
