Say it isn’t … soy: IKEA pulls elk pasta off the shelves

IKEA has deemed one of its products to be too dangerous to be sold on the market, but it isn’t a piece of furniture: it’s pasta.

Specifically, IKEA has decided to pull its PASTA-ALGAR brand of elk-shaped pasta, on the grounds that the product contained soy, but did not proclaim so on the product label.

The danger, then, was of consumers who are allergic to soy accidentally ingesting it unknowingly.

The Swedish home products giant said the move was made as a precaution, and that customer safety was of the highest importance to it.

“Analysis of PASTAALGAR have indicated presence of soy, which is not declared on the product.

“Soy is an allergen and persons allergic to soy may experience an allergic reaction if eating the product,” it said in a statement, as quoted by Bernama.

IKEA maintains, however, that the pasta is completely safe for consumption by those who aren’t allergic to soy, and that customers who had purchased the product but are unable to consume it due to allergies can return the pasta to IKEA’s food market on the ground floor of its outlet in Ikano Power Centre for a full refund.
