A century-old soya bean factory in Penang has been ordered to close, along with four other food factories in the state.
Bernama reports that the other premises include a candy factory in Teluk Kumbar, noodle factory in Simpang Ampat and a sauce-making factory in Bukit Mertajam.
All five were ordered to shut down after failing to comply with hygiene standards.
“Our inspection also found the wet products were left to dry on bamboo sticks with bathing towels. The bamboo sticks were also dirty and dusty,” state health (food safety and quality division) deputy director Ku Nafishah Ku Ariffin was quoted saying.
