Police: Illegal for escort riders to stop or divert traffic

Riders hired to provide escort services for VIPs are not allowed — by law — to stop or divert traffic. There, now you know.

So if you see this happening the next time a fancy car whizzes by and you’re ordered to pull over, let the cops know.  Bukit Aman Traffic chief SAC Datuk Mohd Fuad Abdul Latiff said he’s heard of several agencies getting away with this.

“What they are doing is illegal if they resort to stopping or diverting traffic,” he was quoted as saying in a report by The Star Online’s Austin Camoens.

He said only the police were authoried to give such orders.
