Woman who planned to marry IS fighter charged

A woman who tried to board a flight to Turkey so that she could marry an Islamic State (IS) fighter has been charged with attempting to support the militant group.

Ummi Kalsom Bahak, 25, had planned to leave the country to marry an IS fighter, Aqif Huessin Rahaizat, Bernama reported.

She had also planned on becoming a member of the terror group. 

Ummi Kalsom, an assistant credit controller, was charged with attempting to board an Air Asia flight bound for Istanbul at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 Departure Hall at 5.20am on Oct 5. 

She was also slapped with an alternative charge of trying to benefit the IS by taking the same flight to enter Syria with the intention to marry Aqif. 

No plea was recorded, the report said, and Ummi was unrepresented. According to the Malay Mail Online, she is the first woman to be charged for her connection with IS.
