KL roads names: You’ll still see the old names on signboards

The KL City Hall (DBKL) has spent RM50,000 changing signboards since they announced name changes to several major roads in the city.

Speaking to the New Straits Times’ Veena Babulal, Mayor Ahmad Phesal Talib said 70 signboards have been changed and here’s the good news: the old names will be retained in brackets.

He also told the NST that there was to be no more debate on the matter.

“This is the government’s decision. We are the third level of the government and as a local authority, we are to ensure that decisions made are carried out smoothly, by making adjustments alongside Pos Malaysia,” he was quoted as saying.

“We can’t honour a ruler by naming a road behind a building or an alley after him. That’s why we chose protocol roads,” he reportedly told the daily in response to suggestions that names of rulers be used for new roads.
