Penang’s iconic Nasi Kandar Line Clear shut down by municipal council

It’s been serving hungry Penangites and food lovers from around the world since 1930, but last night George Town’s famous Nasi Kandar Line Clear was shut down by officers from the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP), who also confiscated a stove, tables, and chairs.

The raid at 4am caught the operators of the iconic eartery and the few customers eating there by surprise, as the MPPP had allegedly not served the restaurant’s management with an eviction notice in advance.

Enforcement officers turned up in two lorries, and confiscated a stove, tables, and chairs.

“They just came and took away everything, except for tables and chairs where there were customers.

“They didn’t even explain why and we could only watch helplessly,” said Hashim Abdul Hamid, Line Clear’s operator.

The owners of the food stall lodged a police report on the incident this morning, reports The Rakyat Post‘s Zalinah Noordin.

Just last year, it was reported that Penang state authorities would step in to ensure that Line Clear would operate legally and hygienically.
