Parking issues cause turf war between three gangs

We’ve all had our grouses when it comes to parking spaces, especially when you’re faced with the soul-crushing ‘there’s a Kancil in there’ moment.

But in Gombak, parking space woes have escalated into a full-blown turf war between three gangs and so far, 13 people have been arrested.

The Sun Daily reports that all 13, including two women, were caught in various areas of Batu Caves and Selayang since Sunday. According to the report, a member of one of the gangs was shot on Sunday.

“The suspects, aged between 19 and 30, have previous criminal records and are on police wanted list,” Gombak police chief ACP Ali Ahmad was quoted as saying.

Parking space issues have been a long-standing problem at Batu Caves when an estimated 1.6million devotees an tourists turn up for the annual celebrations.

“The recurring problem is parking. Police will allow devotees and the public to park at the entrance to the temple and on the road shoulder under the MRR2 flyover facing the temple and it is legal. However, many devotees have complained of touts profiteering from car parks located outside the temple area and pavement under the MRR2,” Ali reportedly said adding that 1,200 policemen would be on duty to maintain order.

“If anyone demands payment, please don’t pay and report to us immediately. Police will be everywhere on the day,” Ali was quoted as saying.
