Weapons, hundreds of bullets found on sailboat in Langkawi

Police in the Kedah discovered firearms and hundreds of live ammunition inside a boat owned by a foreigner in Langkawi last week.

Bernama reports that five high powered firearms, three telescopic sights and silencers as well as three ammunition magazines of various sizes were found in the sailboat — owned by a South African national — at a jetty on Thursday.

“The sailboat was left at the Rebak Marina jetty since last August by its owner. Upon inspection with the Immigration Department we also found out that the South African national had already left Malaysia,” Kedah police chief Datuk Zamri Yahya reportedly said.

The weapons and ammunition were hidden in a bedroom at the back of the ship, he added.

According to Zamri, two similar cases happened last year with police seizing 23 firearms and thousands of bullets from foreign ships in Langkawi.

“We view this thing seriously because we found rifles in Langkawi that were undeclared by the related parties,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
