Stop the bickering about popiah and lumpia semarang, says Indonesia’s chairman of the house of regional representatives Irman Gusmab.
“It is nothing to be worried about. Both are tasty,” he said, commenting on Indonesia’s claim to ownership of the savoury springroll, the New Straits Times reported.
“”It is normal for such misunderstandings to happen as we have a lot of similarities in terms of culture food and language,” he reportedly said during a visit to the Dewan Negara today, a move that was meant to strengthen ties between the parliaments of both nations.
Recently, a protest took place in front of the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta, claiming that the lumpia — which is Indonesia’s version of the savoury popiah — originated from Indonesia.
