The cover-up: Terengganu wants its visitors to dress “decently”

Terengganu backstepped from putting out a new ruling banning tourists and visitors to the state from wearing “inappropriate attire” on the state government’s website, but might proceed with slight adjustments soon.

On Sunday night, the Terengganu state government’s official website, TeganuKita.my, published an article detailing dress code guidelines for visitors to the State, but the article has since been pulled down.

Dina Murad of The Star Online reports that the TeganuKita article mentioned a circular with guidelines on attire would be released to all Malaysian travel agents and Malaysian tourism headquarters in the the region, including Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.

The guidelines, which target tourists, particularly female ones, were drafted after a meeting between the state government and thr Terengganu Islamic and Malay Heritage Council (Maidam).

Maidam is expected to hold a press conference expounding on the matter soon.
