Anti-mosquito paint can reduce dengue cases by 95 percent, says Ministry

We have seen many, many attempts at defeating mosquitoes, especially during dengue season, which is practically, all the time — from anti-mosquito soap and body lotion to fogging to death claps.

Add another superhero to that mix: the anti-mosquito wall paint, designed to annihilate those mosquitoes upon contact.

The paint, Bernama reports, is mixed with an insecticide called deltamethrin and is the result of research by the Institute for Medical Research (IMR).

“IMR has scientific proof on the effectiveness of this anti-mosquito wall paint and the ministry has held discussions with the company keen to produce the paint,” Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam was quoted as saying in Shah Alam today.

The ministry, he said, was planning to spray this paint onto the external walls of buildings — a move that could reduce dengue cases by 95 per cent.

“The spray applied once on the external walls of buildings remains effective for three months,” he was quoted further.

The year has so far seen more than 30,000 dengue cases with close to 100 deaths.
