‘Gold’ Garbage: DBKL has a plan to save RM800,000 in waste disposal costs

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall is hoping to turn garbage into ‘gold’ — by turning all garden and organic waste into compost that would then be used for landscaping works around the city.

A nursery, which opened last year, will be used for this purpose, Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib told Bernama.

Total savings from this is expected to be RM800,000, he said.

“The current transportation cost for each tonne of solid waste is between RM29 and RM50, while the tipping fee is between RM30 and RM36 for each tonne,” Ahmad Phesal was quoted as saying.

“The landscape at the nursery is also capable of restoring the soil structure and improve soil fertility, which will create huge benefit and help us to have greener Kuala Lumpur,” he was quoted further.
