Dengue: 74 construction sites in Selangor have been shut down

The War on Mosquitoes is in full swing— at least where shutting down construction sites is concerned.

So far, 74 sites in Selangor found to be breeding mosquitoes have been told to stop operations and begin a thorough clean-up process to free it from any trace of the dengue-carrying Aedes.

Bernama quotes Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as saying that 87 construction areas have been caught breaking the rules and all of them would be taken to court.

Until March 18, 30,033 dengue cases have been reported  this year — a spike from the 21,111 cases seen during the corresponding period last year — with 95 people dying.

The Health Ministry recently unveiled its latest weapon against the spread of dengue — paint that’s designed to kill Aedes mosquitoes upon contact.

Will it work? We will find out in a couple of months. Until then, kill the jentik-jentik if you find them in your flower pots.
