The Goods and Services Tax (GST) rolling out in just a few hours might be exempt and zero-rated on a whole slew of things, but website domain names aren’t one of them – any domain with the suffix .my (for Malaysia, but you knew that) will have a 6% Federal Government add-on slapped on its price tag.
Tech portal Amanz reports that the sole administrator for all domain names with the .my suffix, MYNIC Bhd, announced that the GST will apply to all Malaysian domains from tomorrow onwards. The GST will also be applied to domain names purchased from resellers.
In addition, Malaysian webhosting services will also start having the GST applied to their fees from tomorrow onwards.
