Top five spots for nasi lemak in and around Selangor

Nasi Lemak is a dish loved by Malaysians of all walks of life. It’s no surprise that there are many nasi lemak fans out there so we looked around and had a taste of different selections available in and around Selangor. Here are our top five picks:

1. Nasi Lemak Bumbung in Seapark

Located at the back alley of Maybank at Jalan 21/11A, Seapark, this spot is usually full of people looking for a good dose of nasi lemak ayam goreng. The stalls open in the evenings — after most businesses in the area close — until early mornings.

Also known as Nasi Lemak Maybank, this favourite t is known for its tender chicken and warm rice but the highlight for many is the delicious sambal. Although portions can be small, there is always the chance for seconds!

2. Nasi Lemak Medan Selera 223

A popular haunt among students, many people believe the best nasi lemak is available at Medan Selera 223. Located at Jalan 51A/223, Petaling Jaya, the food court is open from 1pm to 2pm and 8pm to 2am on weekdays, 8pm to 4am on Saturday and 8am to 1am on Sunday.

Two nasi lemak stalls are popular here — Gerai Yatie and Gerai Suri. Yatie’s pre-packed nasi lemak with a red mark is known for its spicy and sweet sambal while Suri’s nasi lemak bungkus with the blue mark is one for those who love spicy sambal.You can even add on a helping of otak-otak.

3. Nasi Lemak Pak Ayob, Seksyen 20, Shah Alam

Located in front of KPJ Selangor Medical Center, this stall is a popular choice for those in Shah Alam. Nasi Lemak Pak Ayob is known for its spicy-sweet sambal which is cooked for eight hours. The rice has just the right amount of lemak and together with kacang, boiled egg and cucumber it is the one of the best nasi lemak in town.

4. Nasi Lemak Idaman, Damansara Damai

Another good spot for Nasi Lemak lovers! The stall is located at Jalan PJU10/1 and has an amazing spread of dishes.

One portion comes with aromatic rice, half a boiled egg, one fried egg and spicy sambal, with the added peanuts and cucumber too. Many nasi lemak fans enjoy the aromatic rice and the ikan bilis sambal. Some even say they like eating the rice on its own. Business starts as early as 6am but if you want a taste of this, it’s best to be there bright and early.

5. Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng ‘Crunchy’

Located opposite the Proton Service Centre in Taman Kosas, Ampang, this nasi lemak is a must try for those who love their fried chicken – along with the sambal, cucumber and boiled egg.  Crunchy chicken, anyone?
