“Islamic”, crotch-optional aurat-covering pants for delivering mothers become online sensation

A local maternity clothing company seems to have solved that most tricky of challenges: ensuring that expectant mothers are able to cover up all their nasty bits while they’re giving birth

The company, MamaPride (tagline: “Maruah. Elegan. Taqwa. Cinta.”, or “Dignity. Elegance. Penitence. Love.”) claims to have perfected the design for maternal delivery pantaloons – basically, pants with a removable crotch flap – that would allow would-be mothers to give birth to their gifts from God while covering their aurat (areas of modesty) at the same time.

From the company’s About page:

“The practice of maternal delivery or conducting vaginal inspections at Medical Centres and Government Hospitals usually involve exposing the aurat, in which not only are the genitals laid bare, but also the entirety of the thighs and calves (all of the leg) which are not even subject to medical attention.”

These guys are so serious, you guys. Proceed:

“In Islam, exposure of the aurat for medical reasons and other emergencies is permitted. But, we should always strive to bring about a more spiritually serene environment for medical checks and procedures that will allow for Islamic codes of dress to still be observed. This is our Fardhu Kifayah (representative religious obligation) for the Islamic Ummah, and those in the medical profession.”

Yeah. Okay.

Visually, the pants look very much like regular track bottoms, just with a removable crotch. In fact, that’s pretty much exactly what they look like: track bottoms with Velcro crotches. How could the rest of us have been so blind to this genius?

The pants retail for RM119 a pair, and MamaPride are looking for distribution agents, or Dropshippers, who will carry MamaPride’s crotch-optional “Islamic” track bottoms after paying a RM50 registration fee.
