LRT brake issues happening since Feb, manufacturers have no solution yet: Prasarana

Well, folks. It appears that LRT brake issues have been happening since February and here’s the clincher: the manufacturers haven’t figured out how to fix it.

Bernama quoted a frustrated Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) group managing director Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz as saying that previous brake malfunctions happened on Feb 11, Feb 25, March 18 and March 28.

The latest in the series of mishaps were two back to back incidents yesterday, which saw one train engulfed in smoke.

Azmi told the national news agency that the two manufacturers — Bombardier-Hartasuma, a Canadian train manufacturing company and Knorr Brake Company from Germany — have not resolved the problem.

“I am disappointed with the feedback and action taken by both companies. As soon as the incident took place yesterday, we had notified both companies and I hope the problem can be solved,” he was quoted as saying.

Azmi said he would meet with both companies today for an immediate fix to the problem.

Earlier today, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) announced that it would set up a team of experts to investigate the two incidents yesterday.
