#BERSIH4: Police prepared to deal with “troublemakers” during rally

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) are equipped and ready to deal with any “troublemakers” who might threaten public safety during this weekend’s #BERSIH4 mass gathering in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

KL city police chief Tajuddin Md Isa told The Star Online that his officers would act swiftly on those who instigate violence and commit acts of violence themselves.

“Let me be very clear. Don’t go overboard or resort to violence.

“We will not tolerate instigators who inflame situations and make it worse. They will be dealt with sternly,” he said.

Despite already warning members of the public not to attend the rally, organised by electoral reform movement Bersih 2.0, Tajuddin said the PDRM would field enough police officers on Saturday and Sunday to ensure no untoward incidents would occur in the streets.

“Our main priority is the safety and security of everyone.”

The Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) has also been placed on standby in light of this weekend’s protest.

Internal Security and Public Order director, Senior Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Fuad Abu Zarim said, however, that the FRU would be fielded should their reinforcements be deemed necessary.

“The Kuala Lumpur police chief will decide when the FRU is needed and deployed to the scene at a moment’s notice. The number of personnel is sufficient,” he said.
