Man caught stealing 30 tubes of toothpaste from mini mart, prefers Darlie to Colgate

It’ll be kind of hard for Muhammad Azlan Ibrahim to flash a toothy grin from now on: he was caught stealing 30 tubes of toothpaste from the Hospi Mart convenience store in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital yesterday.

The 22-year old restaurant worker even showed some brand loyalty – out of the 30 tubes of toothpaste he tried to make off with, 23 were Darlie, and only seven tubes were Colgate. So he’s clearly not down with mainstream market trends.

Muhammad Azlan pleaded for leniency for the theft worth RM140.40, telling the KL Magistrate’s Court that it was his first offence.

mStar reports that when asked why he did it, he replied that it was because he was trying to get some quick pocket money.

The offence, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, carries with it a penalty of up to 10 years in jail, or a fine, or both.

Presiding judge Nur Aminatul Mardiah Md Nor sentenced Muhammad Azlan to 10 days in jail from the date of his arrest, and a fine of RM250. Should he fail to settle the fine, he would be required to serve another 15 days in prison.
