After just over two years, news portal The Rakyat Post announced that it has shut down operations.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the portal said that it ceased operations ‘until further notice as of today’.
“We would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support since our inception in 2013.
Over the coming months we will be undergoing restructuring and looking at solving our funding issues,” the statement said.
The Star Online reports that the company, owned by Wespacom Sdn Bhd, had come to the decision following a meeting with 60 employees yesterday.
According to the report, the company told its employees — who have not been paid over the last two months — that they would have to file a formal complaint against the company at the Labour Department.
