Firefighters scrambled to help move obese Alor Setar man to the hospital

Staffers at the Alor Setar Hospital in Kedah today had to request assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department with an improbable load: moving an obese patient into a ward for treatment.

The patient in question had been transferred from nearby Tunku Fuziah Hospital in an ambulance at around 2.45pm today.

However, hospital staff had extreme difficulty moving the man from the emergency entrance to a treatment ward, as he weighed in at a massive 300kg.

“We had to contact the Fire and Rescue Department to request their assistance in moving the patient,” said Kedah health director Dr Norhizan Ismail, as quoted by Astro Awani

In response, the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department dispatched a fire engine and six firefighters to assist the hospital.

“The patient was transported into the ward on a Fire Department stretcher. We had to exercise extreme caution to avoid any untoward incidents to the patient,” said Kedah Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Mohd Naim Mat Jaaffar.
