New generation trains for LRT Kelana Jaya line from June 30

New and improved, with better air-condition, bigger windows as well as an electronic passenger management chart.

LRT users can expect 14 driverless four-car trains with these new features running on the Light Rail Transit Kelana Jaya extension line from June 30.

Imported from Canada, these trains are said to ‘meet the demands of the evolving industry’, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ahmad Nizam Mohamed Amin was quoted as saying in a report by The Star Metro.

“We will rectify some minor problems on the existing model so that we will not face similar issues in future,” he was quoted as saying.

The 14 four-car trains — named Bombardier INNOVIA Metro 300 — will begin service at the end of June, while eight other trains would be here on a later date.

This new train would have a capacity of 220 passengers — that’s 20 more than current ones — and will be equipped with 16 closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV), a map that would allow passengers to track their intended destinations as well as a ‘Wheel Lubricating System’ that allows for a quieter ride, paultan.org reports.
