Retired cop’s dog brings abandoned baby home

This is why a dog is a man’s best friend. Well, in this case, an infant’s best friend.

According to Bernama, 64-year-old retired policeman Jeffrey Majilin had just switched off the television and was about to go to bed at 9pm on Saturday when he heard the faint cries of a baby coming from outside his house in Sandakan.

Sandakan Police Chief Asst Comm Zabidi Zin told the news agency that Jeffrey immediately went outside to investigate and was shocked to find his dog carrying a newborn baby boy in its mouth.

Zabidi said the newborn was found wrapped in a yellow silk headscarf with its umbilical cord and placenta still attached. According to the report, there was no note found with the baby.

He added that Jeffrey immediately took the infant to the Beluran district hospital and a medical examination found the newborn to be healthy.

The Social Welfare Department had been informed about the matter, Zabidi told Bernama.
