PLUS Expressways Sdn Bhd (PLUS) has been issuing these advisories to motorists every Hari Raya season since 2008, but last year, only 21 per cent of them took heed.
So, they want to remind you again this balik kampung season.
The Star Online’s Nicholas Cheng reported that the highway operator expects 1.6 million motorists on July 2, 3, 5 and 6 and later, July 9 and 10 for their return to the Klang Valley.
To manage the rush, PLUS has a plan for those of you planning to hit the highway from July 1 to 10.
Motorists travelling to Perlis and Kedah should aim to travel between 6am and 10am; those heading to Penang and the northern and central Perak are advised to begin their journeys between 10am and 6pm.
If you’re heading to the south of Perak and Selangor, the recommended journey time is around 6pm, while motorists heading to Johor should aim to leave between 6am and 3pm, the news site reported.
For motorists bound for Negri Sembilan and Malacca, PLUS suggests leaving at 3pm.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Noorizah Abd Hamid told The Star that motorists’ compliance to the advisory was at a record high of 61 percent in 2012.
“After the high level of compliance, there was a downward trend, probably because people take for granted that somebody else will comply,” Noorizah was quoted as saying
“So, if everyone has that mindset of ‘I don’t need to comply because everyone else will comply’, then, of course, the level will go down,” she was quoted further.
