Woman suffers serious burns after using mobile phone while filling up petrol

Are people these days too busy to pay attention to the many warning notices at petrol stations?

For one woman in Setapak Indah today, it was a phone call that had to be answered — nevermind that she was in in the middle of refuelling her car.

Bernama reported that the 25-year-old woman had been talking on the mobile phone when a pump nozzle sparked fire, igniting the device.

As a result, the woman reportedly sustained 60 percent burns on her body, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani was quoted as saying.

“Upon receiving the distress call at 1.25pm, a team of five firefighters from Wangsa Maju fire and rescue station was sent to the scene and arrived 10 minutes later,” he said in a statement.

The use of mobile phones is prohibited in petrol stations, so don’t use it.
