MCMC blocks 27 websites, 57 URLs linked to terror group

To date, Malaysian authorities have reportedly blocked 27 websites and 57 URLs connected to the Islamic State terror group.

According to Bernama, the websites blocked by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) were in both Malay and English languages, intending to spread the global militant group’s ideology.

“MCMC contacted YouTube, Twitter and Facebook to seek their cooperation to remove one Twitter account, three Facebook accounts and six YouTube channels with 20 videos for the same reason,” Minister Dr Salleh Said Keruak was quoted as saying.

According to Salleh, the MCMC has also moved in to identify those supporting the terror group.

“Information obtained through MCMC’s monitoring of social media outlets facilitated the identification of those found to support, sympathise or involved in the spread of such ideology for further action by police,” he was quoted further.

On June 20, the IS launched a Malay-language propaganda newspaper, soon after its first ever attack on Malaysian soil.

The Al Fatihin newspaper, was launched on June 20 in Southern Philippines and is reportedly being distributed to supporters and sympathisers in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and southern Thailand.
