Cabbie robs foreign student, shoves her into drain

A female foreign student was seriously injured when she was robbed and shoved into a drain by a taxi driver.

According to The New Straits Times, the incident is believed to have happened in the wee hours of Wednesday morning when the woman reportedly hailed the cab to take her home from an entertainment outlet in Hartamas.

Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent R. Supramaniam told the daily that the victim, believed to be drunk, was found lying inside a drain in Bukit Beruntung at 9.30am.

R. Supramaniam said the cab driver allegedly took the victim’s handbag, which contained her phone and RM100 in cash, before pushing her out of the vehicle.

“The victim said she tried to run after the taxi, but failed as the driver had sped off.

“Suddenly, the taxi returned to location and the driver shoved her into a drain,” he was quoted as saying.

Members of the public reportedly called an ambulance and the victim was rushed to the Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital, where initial examinations revealed that she sustained a broken spine.
