Good news, Malaysians! The govt will not ban Pokemon Go

Worry not, Pokemon fans; we will not suffer the same fate as our fellow Indonesian Pokemon lovers.

That is because the government will not ban the game when it is finally released in Malaysia.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak told Bernama that the government will neither object nor restrict the free-to-play game from releasing in Malaysia.

“Even though some countries may restrict it, but we in Malaysia…we have not reached that stage,” he was quoted by the news agency as saying.

This came after local preacher Shahrizan Daud at-Turabi claimed last week that the hugely popular augmented reality game is ‘haram’ as it is dangerous and goes against the teachings of Islam.

Last week, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has given police officers the green light to play Pokemon Go when it officially launches in the country.

The countries that have so far banned the game include Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Thankfully, we’re not one of them…for now!
