Man murdered at Setapak traffic lights, shot at 16 times

Two gunmen reportedly shot a man to death at a traffic light intersection near Setapak Central this afternoon.

The Star Online reports that the gunmen — believed to have been riding pillion on two motorcycles — opened fire at the victim’s car as he was driving along the road alone near the mall at 3.35pm.

It was reported that the 43-year-old victim, a moneylender and father of three, was shot 16 times.

“They came when the victim’s car was at the traffic light. One shooter went to the left and another to the right before both opened fire,” Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Rusdi Mohd Isa was quoted as saying.

He was reportedly on the way to meet with a relative when he was killed. SAC Rusdi told reporters that family members have identified the victim.

He added that ‘there is a possibility’ that the murder was gang-related.

“We have early information on his background of being involved in gangs,” The Star quoted him as saying.
