Residents lodge police report against Pokemon GO players in Penang

A group of Pokemon trainers hunting for cute little monsters at the backlanes of Lebuh Acheh and Lebuh Cannon in Penang were instead greeted by a group of stern-looking uniformed men.

Early Tuesday morning, a group of policemen were dispatched to the scene following complaints of noise pollution and traffic obstruction in the area.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told The Star Online that several residents have lodged a police report against Pokemon GO players for disturbing the peace and for being too noisy.

“I have instructed traffic police personnel to issue summonses to players whose vehicles or motorcycles are parked haphazardly on road shoulders, causing traffic congestion here.

“Police have also advised players not to make so much noise, which could disturb public order and the residents’ peacefulness in the area around Lebuh Acheh.

“I do not see anything wrong in playing Pokemon GO, but we will advise them,” he was quoted by the news portal as saying.

This wasn’t the first time a police report was lodged against the free-to-play augmented reality game and its players in Malaysia.

Pertubuhan Martabat Julinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM)’s Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah lodged a police report on July 27 against Pokemon GO, claiming that the game promotes social ills among the youth and destroy the faith of Muslims.
