Lee Chong Wei gets RM1.5 million condominium as a gift

When he returns from Rio with a silver medal around his neck, badminton hero Lee Chong Wei will undoubtedly be showered with lots of gifts and cash incentives from sponsors, but this gift hands down takes the cake.

A Kuala Lumpur property developer is hoping to “surprise” the Olympics silver medalist with a luxury condominium unit worth a cool RM1.5 million.

The managing director of Orando Holdings Datuk Eng Wei Chun told Malay Mail Online that he decided to gift the three bedroom, 1,100-square foot unit in Taman Maluri for his contribution to the country.

“I wanted to give him a surprise. He has done so much for the country,” Eng was quoted saying.

Eng also revealed that the world number one shuttler had previously visited the company’s showroom in Cheras and had expressed an interest in buying a unit a few days before flying off to Rio De Janeiro for the Olympic Games.

The fully-furnished Lavile condominium unit will reportedly be ready by 2020.

The 33-year-old won a silver medal — his second Olympics silver medal — in the badminton men’s singles event after falling 21-18, 21-18 to China’s Chen Long in the final.
