Wrong place at the wrong time: Woman killed in freak incident

A woman was crushed to death when the sheave hook from an overhead crane fell and landed on top of her car on Thursday.

According to the Malay Mail, the incident reportedly occured near Jalan Raja Chulan at around 7.20pm.

The hook, which was attached to a crane at a construction site believed to be a part of the Pavilion shopping mall, somehow detached and fell on top of the woman’s car, which was reportedly stationary in traffic.

The victim, 24-year-old Chin Khoon Sing, was reportedly pinned inside her Perodua Kelisa by the one-tonne hook.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Abu Hassan Abdul Rahman told the daily that they were alerted to the incident at around 7.23pm and 16 firemen were dispatched to the scene.

“The hook from the construction crane gave way and fell on the car, pinning the driver in her seat,” Abu Hassan was quoted as saying.

The woman’s remains were reportedly sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh told news portal Malaysiakini that the police have opened an investigation paper.

“We are investigating the cause of the incident,” he was quoted as saying.

The case, according to Amar, is being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code for death by negligence.
