Surprise, surprise: Malaysia named best place to drive in South-East Asia

This might come as a surprise, considering the fact that our roads are riddled with potholes and Malaysians are always stuck in traffic jams, but Malaysia has just been named the best place to drive in South-East Asia.

What a shocker, right? We know.

Traffic and navigation app Waze recently released their their second annual Driver Satisfaction Index, and the study revealed that out of 38 countries and 235 cities surveyed in this year’s list, Malaysia was ranked 23 – the highest-ranked South-East Asian country.

Malaysia is also one of only four Asean countries featured in the index, with Singapore, Indonesia and Philippines coming in at 32, 34 and 37 respectively.

As for Malaysian towns and cities, Malacca came out tops, ranking 94 overall when it comes to driving satisfaction, according to the Waze.

Some of Malaysia’s biggest cities such as Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru were ranked 131st, 137th and 140th respectively.

Valence in France was named the best city to drive in the world while Cebu in the Philippines was named the worst. Yikes!

Oh, in case you were wondering, the Netherlands was named the best place to drive in the world, with France and the United States coming in second and third respectively.

El Savador came in last in this year’s ranking.

Each year, the Waze Driver Satisfaction Index analyses the driving experience of Waze users in countries with more than 200,000 active monthly users.

According to Waze, the Index determines the rankings based on six factors: the density of traffic, quality of roads, road safety, socio economics, availability of driver services, and Wazeyness (happiness and thankfulness of Waze users).
