Egyptian tourist falls off Langkawi hotel balcony and into the ocean, goes missing

It was supposed to be a romantic trip for two, but it turned tragic after an Egyptian man went missing at sea.

According to The New Straits Times, the victim, identified as 27-year-old Yahya Yousry Mohamad Al-Sayid, is believed to have fallen from his Berjaya Hotel Resort room balcony at around 4pm on Monday.

Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) northern region maritime director First Admiral Tan Kok Kwee told the daily that Yahya’s wife reported the incident to the hotel staff and a search-and-rescue mission was reportedly mounted thirty minutes later.

“The victim has since gone missing. We have yet to be able to find him due to stormy weather and strong waves.

“A search and rescue (SAR) operation was mounted at 4.30pm, involving MMEA, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Department and police,” Tan was quoted by the daily as saying.

However, Tan told the NST that the operation had to be put on hold due to the rough condition of the sea and the bad weather.

“At this juncture, he has yet to be found. If conditions do not permit, SAR operations will be suspended today and continued tomorrow morning,” he was quoted further.
