Pictures of rats in dried chilli tank go viral on social media

Could this be the real-life version of Remy from the animated film ‘Ratatouille’?

Several pictures showing a couple of rats chilling in a dried chilli tank have gone viral online.

The photos were first uploaded onto Facebook by a user named Winnie Tan last week.

According to Winnie, the pictures were allegedly taken at a Giant supermarket in Terengganu.

Walao eh, got rats in the dried chilli container. There’s about 10 rats in there, you want people to die,” she wrote in the caption.

However, Winnie has since deleted the pictures, but another Facebook user who goes by the name of John Nenen re-posted them on October 17 – because the Internet never forgets, right?

John’s post has since gone viral, having been shared more than 7,700 times:

Meanwhile, the supermarket in question had reportedly disposed off the dried chilli, weighing 63.8kg, to bring back customer confidence.

State Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism (KPDNKK) director Azlan Abd Samat told Bernama that five officers went to the supermarket to investigate after the photos went viral.

“The pictures went viral on social media in the night. So, early, the next morning we went to the supermarket, and were informed by the management that 63.8kg of chilli stock has been disposed off,” he was quoted as saying.

Azlan also told the news agency that the management will sell the dried chilli in smaller packets instead of big open boxes moving forward.
