Photos of schoolgirl being chained to a pole go viral on social media

Photos showing a girl in school uniform being chained to a pole have gone viral on social media.

The photos, which reportedly began circulating on Facebook since Wednesday evening, show the primary schoolgirl’s right leg being chained and padlocked to a pole while her schoolbag and her water bottle are left on the ground beside her.

The images have caused an uproar among Netizens, with many condemning the act and blaming the girl’s mother for resorting to such brutal measures to punish the child.

Meanwhile, The Star Online reports that the police have picked up the girl’s mother and recorded her statement.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Azlin Sadari told the news portal that the incident reportedly took place at the Lagoon Perdana apartment at 6.35pm on Wednesday.

Concerned residents reportedly alerted the police, and a team of officers was dispatched to the scene.

“When our men arrived at the scene, a group of people had already gathered around the girl who was chained to a pole,” ACP Mohammad Azlin was quoted as saying.

According to ACP Mohammad Azlin, the eight-year-old girl’s mother turned up ten minutes later and admitted to chaining the girl, telling police that she was chained as punishment as she often refused to go to school.

The police then reportedly brought the 30-year-old woman and the girl to the Subang Jaya police headquarters for questioning.

ACP Mohammad Azlin told The Star that it was the first time the girl was chained, and the police later released the woman and the girl.

The case is reportedly being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect and exposure of a child to physical injury.
