Want to take a pretty aerial video using your pricey drone?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you need a permit to do that now.
The police have declared that the use of such remote-controlled unmanned aerial vehicles without a permit is against the law.
Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah told Malay Mail Online that those caught using them can be arrested and their drones seized.
And yes, that includes using them during gatherings such as concerts and music festivals.
“There have been incidents of these drones endangering public safety, and even situations where privacy and security are breached,” ACP Zainol was quoted by the daily as saying.
He added that Section 143 of the Civil Aviation Act 1969 stipulates that an approval from the authorities is needed to use a drone in areas where people are gathered.
There are instances in the past where drone usage have gotten people into trouble with the law.
Back in March 2015, a drone enthusiast landed himself in hot water when he allegedly flew a quadcopter drone into the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) runway to take pictures of descending aircrafts.
