Wondergoal scorer Mohd Faiz Subri gets cool reward from Johor Crown Prince

It literally pays to score a wondergoal.

Penang midfielder Mohd Faiz Subri, whose physics-defying wondergoal has been shortlisted as one of the finalists for the 2016 FIFA Puskas Award, received a handsome reward from the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

The Star Online reports that Tunku Ismail presented the 29-year-old footballer with a cash reward of RM15,000.

The reward, according to the Royal, was to celebrate Mohd Faiz’s achievement of making top three in the Puskas Award as well as a token of appreciation for bringing glory to Malaysia.

Tunku Ismail made the announcement via a post on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page on Tuesday.

“It has nothing to do with speculation that Mohd Faiz will be joining JDT (Johor Darul Ta’zim) for the next season of the Malaysian League,” the posting read.

Last Friday, Mohd Faiz’s wondergoal, which according to experts “defied the laws of physics”, has been shortlisted as one of the three finalists in the running for FIFA’s prestigious 2016 Puskas Award.

The knuckleball, scored against Pahang in a Malaysian Super League match on February 16, will be going up against goals scored by Brazil’s Marlone and Venezuela’s Daniuska Rodriguez.

The winner will be announced and presented with their award on January 9 at a glitzy ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland.

Oh, in case you missed the goal:
